Roll A Man

3D Bumper Ball Brawler

Created in December, 2018

Team Size: 4

Personal Development Hours: 30

My Key Additions: movement, damage calculation, controls, level editing, camera work.

Roll A Man was made for my 3D project for my first semester of Game Design. One of the last student-made 2D games that I played was a two player turn based fighting game which felt fun and exciting. I wanted to capture that feeling in this game while using an eccentric theme to make this more entertaining than just two characters rolling around at each other.

Our game is fast-paced with our two characters Sgt. Randall and Julien quickly rolling around throughout our moon and ice arenas. The player can jump, crash into their opponent, get items like speed boosts, infinite jump, and damage up to defeat their opponent and achieve victory. Our levels don't look like much, but the mechanics along with the music and overall feel of the game make this a fun and funny experience.

To improve this game I'd want to add more to the mechanics to make the controls feel less floaty or slidey. I'd like to add a brake to slow down players more easily and a charge up ability so players could attack others quickly, similar to the charge used in the Sonic games.

Abstract:

Aliens have taken control of Earth and their most popular form of entertainment is watching Roll A Man, a twisted sport where aliens mold their human captives into roll-able gladiators. The winner of this terrible sport will be able to regain their form. Fight for your freedom in Roll A Man!
